The correct Size for your Outdoor Kitchen Vent Hood
If you already have an outdoor kitchen, and you want to add a vent hood, then it’s important to find the right size. You’ll want to measure the space where the hood will go, taking into account the height, width, and depth with which you have to work.
The hood should be at least 4 inches wider than your grill to allow for a 2 inch overhang on either side of the grill to ensure maximum smoke clearance. You’ll want to be sure that it’s placed high enough to avoid posing a risk to people as they stand at or walk by the grill.
The Correct Height for your Outdoor Kitchen Vent Hood
Make sure your outdoor vent hood is positioned low enough so that it pulls all the smoke from the grill up and away from the cooking area. The maximum height that you should hang a hood is 36 inches above your grill, any higher and the smoke will spread out before being vented. If the blowers aren’t able to pull exhaust adequately, you could be left with a smoky and clouded grilling space that’s no fun to use. You could also impact your seating and dining area, and nobody wants to end up smelling like grill smoke when they’re trying to enjoy a relaxing weekend afternoon.
What are CFMs?
CFM represents the amount of air that moves through the vent every minute–cubic feet per minute. You need a minimum of 1200 CFMs for an outdoor hood. Anything less than that, isn’t going to perform well in the outdoor elements.
All outdoor rated hoods should have at least 1200 CFMs.
Vent Your Outdoor Grill Vent Hood
