Find Your New Outdoor Grill Hood!

At The Outdoor Appliance Store, we want to help customers find the very best products for their outdoor kitchens and grilling areas. Apart from the cooking solution, the most important aspect of your backyard area is perhaps the grill vent hood. You don’t want smoke and fumes ruining your dining experience, and with the right outdoor grill hood, you can keep the area clear of annoying odors and haze. We carry only the best products from top brands, including Trade-Wind and HEAT hoods!

Trade-Wind Pyramid Hood

Trade-Wind BBQ Hoods

Finding the right outdoor vent hood doesn’t have to be difficult, and with our selection from Trade-Wind, the process will be easier than ever. We have a variety of options, and you can find the size that fits in your backyard kitchen. If you’re not sure which size you need, a member of our team will gladly help you choose the right option. Above all, we want you to end up with the right product that fits perfectly above your grill!

HEAT Vent Hoods

Another great option for your outdoor area is a HEAT vent hood. These products are manufactured to stand the test of time, and we carry a variety of options, including 36”, 42”, and 48” hoods. We also have 12-foot ceiling duct extensions and 10” roof caps that make it easy to run your exhaust stack up and away from your grilling area. The heavy-gauge stainless steel finish is designed to match nearly any grill’s brushed finish, so you won’t have to worry about your vent hood clashing with the rest of your backyard kitchen.

Sizing and Placing Your New Vent Hood

If you already have an outdoor kitchen, and you want to add a vent hood, then it’s important to find the right size. You’ll want to measure the space where the hood will go, taking into account the height, width, and depth with which you have to work. Keep in mind that the depth of the hood will be wider at the bottom than it is at the top, and you’ll need to leave room for the exhaust stack.

The hood should be at least 4 inches wider than your grill to allow for a 2 inch overhang on either side of the grill, to ensure maximum smoke clearance you may want to go wider. You’ll want to be sure that it’s placed high enough to avoid posing a risk to people as they stand at or walk by the grill. However, you’ll want to make sure that’s positioned low enough so that it pulls all the smoke from the grill up and away from the cooking area. The maximum height that you should hang a hood is 36 inches above your grill, any higher and the smoke will spread out before being vented. If the blowers aren’t able to pull exhaust adequately, you could be left with a smoky and clouded grilling space that’s no fun to use. You could also impact your seating and dining area, and nobody wants to end up smelling like grill smoke when they’re trying to enjoy a relaxing weekend afternoon.

As a best practice we also recommend installing an easy to clean back splash, such as granite, going from behind your grill up to the vent hood. Smoke from the grill can leave your wall with dark stains if not maintained properly.

Cooking at Night

One of the other benefits of a Trade-Wind or HEAT outdoor grill hood is that you can find options that include dimmable halogen lights. This makes grilling at night much easier, as you’ll be able to see more easily as you flip burgers or sear steaks. Your backyard dining and cooking area likely has its own lights, and your grill may be illuminated as well, but having that additional light can make a huge difference. The dimmable lights also help you set the ambiance for those cookouts that take place after the sun has set.
